Integrated Shape Interrogation Software (ISIS)
In support of one of our Phase II SBIR efforts, AITHER developed a LabVIEW-based Towed Array - Integrated Shape Interrogation Software (TA-ISIS) program to determine and display the shape of towed sonar arrays in real-time. The software reads wavelength values from four fiber Bragg grating (FBG) arrays off of a commercial interrogation unit and processes them through AITHER’s proprietary strain-to-shape algorithm, displaying the resulting shape in real-time. The software has several different graphical options for displaying the array in 2D or 3D, as well as many save options including saving wavelength, microstrain, bending strains, and array shape. ISIS has an open architecture that allows for easy modification for other shape sensing applications for long slender structures. Structural strains can be obtained through integrated fiber optic sensors, such as in the towed sonar array, or through any other approach. Versions of the software have been developed for Optical Tethers (OT-ISIS) and Cantilever Beams (CB-ISIS).
