Strain Sensors

Fiber Bragg grating sensors provide a versatile platform to fabricate multiple strain sensing packages. As described below for each sensor package, the FBG sensor is employed in the sensor design in a similar manner as the wire grid of an electrical resistance strain gage. These all-optical sensors maintain the advantages of fiber optics over traditional sensors making them ideal for most applications. Please contact us for a quote or to discuss how these sensor packages can solve your strain sensing problem.

Standard FBG

Typically referred to as a “Bare FBG,” this sensor comes without any packaging. Sensor lead lengths and connectorization options are available. Typical optical fiber coating is acrylate, but polyimide may be available upon request.

Flat-Pack -- No Longer Available as a Commercial Product

AITHER’s patented strain and temperature sensing design allows two closely spaced FBG sensors to monitor strain and temperature variations (sensor readings are decoupled in data processing). The package design is intended to mimic that of a standard resistance strain gage.

Ultra-Pack

A similar design to the Flat-Pack, but only containing a single FBG sensor for strain monitoring. Designed to ease handling and bonding procedures. The package design is intended to mimic that of a standard resistance strain gage.

Rosette

Available in bi-axial (0/90 degrees) and tri-axial (0/45/90 degrees) configurations, this sensor package allows for easy multi-axis installation of FBG sensors along fixed directions.

Long Base Strain Gage

Rugged design for marine applications allows for strain measurement over distances of 6 feet. Can be easily combined with other sensor packages or used in multiples for structure coverage.
