Health Monitoring Research and Development

AITHER has been involved in many aspects of structural health monitoring systems including sensors, algorithms, and entire systems. Leveraging the advantages of fiber optic sensors, especially the ability to produce massive sensing networks, AITHER has investigated large-scale ship monitoring systems based on structural strains and damage control measurements. AITHER has also investigated advanced health monitoring and prognostic algorithms for the Army, Navy, and Air Force. By combining these algorithms with our fiber optic sensor expertise, AITHER has been able to make contributions to all aspects of the health monitoring/prognostics field.

Our research projects in these areas include the following:

Sensors and Systems

Ship Structural Health Monitoring
Fiber Optic Damage Assessment System (FODAS)

Health Monitoring and Prognostics Algorithms

Rotorcraft Health Usage Monitoring (HUMS)
Remaining Useful Life Estimator (RULE) Methodology
Comprehensive Structural Health Monitoring
