Aither Engineering's main focus is to provide our clients with expert service in design, development, and application of fiber optic sensor technology.  Aither has specialized in areas of custom sensor development, shape sensing, structural testing, and health monitoring through multiple Department of Defense SBIR programs and funding from industry clients.  Follow the links to learn more about our engineering services or submit your application requirements to us via our online form.

Aither personnel have performed various research projects involving the development and application of fiber optic sensor technology for marine, aerospace, civil, and industrial applications.  This research has led to the development of novel sensor packaging techniques, new sensor embedding techniques, and advanced measurement algorithms.  Some of the research projects have led to commercial products

Aither personnel have been developing and refining fiber optic shape technology since 1997.  This work has been mostly funded through DoD SBIR programs.  Aither's patented technolgy uses fiber optic sensors to measure strain directly from the object and converts this data to shape through Aither's strain-to-shape algorithms.

Aither's structural testing experience includes assests both small and large, in the lab and in the field.  Aither has performed structural testing services employing fiber optic sensing technology on platforms as varied as submarine hulls (pictured), bridge structures, naval vessels, and rotorcraft components.  Our experience in these testing programs have allowed for the development of robust sensor bonding and embedding techniques for robust measurements.

Researchers at Aither have investigated both sensing technologies and diagnostic/prognostic algorithms for structural health monitoring. Diagnostic and prognostic efforts have focused on the development of algorithms for the detection of damage and estimation of remaining useful life in aerospace and civil structures.

Aither provides custom software development as a portion of our systems integration package.  Aither's user interfaces provide the end user with the information they require in engineering units.  Aither has provided this service for many clients using Micron Optics' instrumentation.  Allowing for non-standard display of data and saving of multiple spectrums.

Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) provides in situ, real-time characterization of materials in solid, liquid, or gaseous phase through optical means.  LIBS technology allows materials to be analyzed without direct contact with the material and little to no material sample preparation.  Aither is currently developing a LIBS system for the U.S. Air Force and exploring other applications in industrial and environmental monitoring.
